A special event for u3a members. It’s the u3a Big Band from Balsall Common who are going to give us a great afternoon. The band is the full works with trumpets, trombones, saxophones, and a complete rhythm section of piano, electric guitar, electric bass guitar, and drums.

Speaker: Javad Hashemi was born in Tehran and taught biology and science at the university before coming to the UK. His talk is an entertaining, illustrated and animated talk about Leonardo da Vinci as an Engineer and Scientist. Leonardo da Vinci was born in 1452 and was way ahead of his time. He produced studies on numerous diverse subjects including paintings, nature, flying machines, anatomy, geometry, mechanics, construction projects including architectural designs for churches and fortresses.

Hellens Manor and Garden with morning trip to Ledbury.   Included is a guided tour of the Manor and refreshments.

Speaker: Gloria Camino who specialises in lecturing on Machu Picchu, the great Citadel of the Incas. Her lecture covers fascinating aspects of her research, including its origin, urban planning and design, its connection with astronomy and Inca religion systems. Also hypothesis as to its purpose after its discovery. Her lecture is illustrated with outstanding pictures and graphics.

Open to all but initial preference given to History group members. Wightwick Manor, Wolverhampton to include introductory talk about the house and pre-raphaelite paintings, refreshments and a light lunch.

Meeting
Speaker: Harry Wilson who recounts his rambles and recollections of his two journeys to Tibet in 2011 and 2017. He describes the panoramic landscape he travelled through across the harsh, remote untouched areas outside time, across a plateau the size of western Europe. Places of serenity, ancient monuments and monasteries. This was his journey over the Himalayas. An explorer’s talk with some amazing photos.

Speaker: Neil Hanson, his talk is a laugh-a-minute tour of the quirks and foibles, highs and lows of his time running Britain’s highest inn back in the 1970s and 1980s, He grapples with tight-fisted farmers, eccentric characters, bizarre local customs, naturist weekends, “lates and lock-ins”, police raids, rats in the attic, close encounters with magistrates and planners, and the shooting of a famous double-glazing commercial. Neil is a successful author with 70 published books to his name, he is also a ‘ghost writer’ for many famous names. He has entertained audiences throughout the UK, USA, Australia and New Zealand.

Speaker: Robin Leach. Who is a local historian and author who has been researching, for over 40 years, the last 200 years or so of Kenilworth history. Ten of his books have been published about the town. One of his books ‘The Abbey Fields’ was published in 2017 and according to the Kenilworth History and Archaeology Society ‘will remain the standard work for years to come’.
